A Self-directed Ensemble of Professional
and Advanced Amateur Performers
Similar to a select group of classical music ensembles, WCS operates as a self-governed
enterprise, with rotating expert musical leadership, and performs primarily without a conductor, guided primarily by the keen
music instincts and insights of its performers. As a Concerto- and Chamber Music- focused ensemble, WCS draws its soloists
from within, enabling its members to share their musical artistry as both ensemble players and soloists. Based in Westchester County, just minutes from New York City, the ensemble comprises primarily career
professional as well as advanced amateur musicians from the New York metro area. (to learn more about our orchestra rehearsal venue, visit
the Rehearsal Space tab)
WCS' members are all accomplished solo, chamber and orchestral music
performers in addition to being music educators, many with close ties to conservatories, prominent chamber music ensembles
and other artistic institutions in the greater New York area and worldwide, and many of us have primary careers in fields
outside of music. (to

A Focus on Active Engagement with Educational Institutions & the Community
As an integral part of our musical mission,
WCS seeks to establish sustainable relationships - anchored in the very highest quality music-making - with the community
across Westchester County and in neighboring areas, and with the educational and cultural institutions at which it performs.
We are committed to the concepts and practice of sustainability and ethical treatment, in both the musical and broadest
possible contexts.
WCS seeks to establish part-time 'residencies' with these institutions - not in a formal sense, but rather in a spirit
of give-and-take with the institution, its students and faculty, and with its surrounding communities - throughout Westchester
County and beyond. Toward this end, WCS offers - on a reciprocal basis - an array of resources to institutions seeking such
sustainable relationships, including through: selective participation in our activities with faculty and advanced students,
'Meet the Artists' discussions and Q&A sessions at our public concerts, and workshops and seminars for aspiring
young performers, whether their career aspirations are in the Arts or in other directions. (to learn more about our mission and guiding principles, visit the Our Mission & Community
